Dear Friends, 
          I wish to extend my warm greetings to the many readers of The Vision Times on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, in the Year of the Dog. 
            As Americans, we all have an opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year that is founded on millennia-long traditions and the wisdom of an ancient culture.  As a nation of immigrants, you and I can be proud of our tradition of accepting and valuing each new group of immigrants that have become a part of our national family, with the cultural traditions that each has contributed to changing and diversifying our uniquely beautiful national culture. 
          I am pleased to count among my friends and constituents many Chinese Americans whose cultural traditions emphasize the values of close-knit families, prioritizing educational achievement and hard work.  And in this Year of the Dog, we have a chance to be especially inspired by the important values of loyalty, honesty and sincerity.  It is my hope that these values will guide us in our efforts to leave fulfilling lives of opportunity for the next generations of Americans. 
          Again, as we begin the Year of the Dog, may you be blessed with happiness, good health and prosperity!
